# First steps: Numbers, prices and paying

> Join Adriana and Ramiro for a Saturday morning of prices and change, one short conversation at a time. Each lesson trains your ear until you can follow every word and answer back.

**Setting:** A fruit and vegetable stall at a neighbourhood market in Mexico City on a Saturday morning, busy but not rushed. Adriana comes most weeks and Ramiro knows her face. They use usted with each other.

## Lessons

### 1. Asking what something costs

Adriana asks Ramiro what the apples cost at his market stall.

### 2. Asking a price again

Adriana misses the price of the tomatoes and asks Ramiro to say it again.

### 3. Asking the price of more items

Adriana asks Ramiro what the bread and the eggs cost.

### 4. Saying how many you want

Ramiro asks how much Adriana wants, and she fills her bag.

### 5. Asking for the total

Adriana asks Ramiro what it comes to all together.

### 6. Paying in cash

Ramiro turns out to take cash only, so Adriana pays with five hundred.

### 7. Understanding your change

Ramiro counts out Adriana's change and sends her off.
