# First steps: What time, what day

> Join Matsumoto and Sakai for opening times and an appointment, one short conversation at a time. Each lesson trains your ear until you can follow every word and answer back.

**Setting:** The doorway of a small barber's shop in Tokyo in the late afternoon. Matsumoto walks past every day and has finally stopped to ask; Sakai is tidying up between customers. Both hold polite です・ます form from the first line.

## Lessons

### 1. Asking what time a shop opens

Matsumoto asks Sakai what time the shop opens.

### 2. Asking what time it closes

Matsumoto asks Sakai what time she closes.

### 3. Checking they are open tomorrow

Matsumoto checks with Sakai whether the shop is open tomorrow.

### 4. Finding out about Monday closing

Sakai tells Matsumoto the shop is closed on Mondays.

### 5. Asking for an appointment tomorrow

Matsumoto asks Sakai for an appointment tomorrow afternoon.

### 6. Agreeing on a time

Three is taken, so Sakai offers Matsumoto half past instead.

### 7. Giving your name for a booking

Sakai takes Matsumoto's name for the booking.
