# First steps: What time, what day

> Join Xu Ming and Cao Li for opening times and an appointment, one short conversation at a time. Each lesson trains your ear until you can follow every word and answer back.

**Setting:** The doorway of a small hairdresser's in Chengdu in the late afternoon. Xu Ming walks past every day and finally stops to ask; Cao Li is tidying up between customers. Both speak to each other politely throughout.

## Lessons

### 1. Asking what time a shop opens

Xu Ming stops at the hairdresser's and asks Cao Li what time she opens.

### 2. Asking what time it closes

Xu Ming asks Cao Li what time the shop closes.

### 3. Checking which days are open

Xu Ming checks with Cao Li which days the shop is open.

### 4. Finding out about Sunday closing

Cao Li tells Xu Ming the shop is closed on Sunday.

### 5. Asking for an appointment tomorrow

Xu Ming asks Cao Li for an appointment tomorrow afternoon.

### 6. Agreeing on a time

Three is busy, so Cao Li offers Xu Ming four instead.

### 7. Giving your name for a booking

Cao Li takes Xu Ming's name and reads the appointment back.
