# First steps: What time, what day

> Join Arun and Shalini for opening times and an appointment, one short conversation at a time. Each lesson trains your ear until you can follow every word and answer back.

**Setting:** The doorway of a small hairdresser's in Jaipur in the late afternoon. Arun walks past every day and finally stops to ask; Shalini is tidying up between customers. Both speak to each other formally throughout.

## Lessons

### 1. Asking what time a shop opens

Arun stops at the hairdresser's and asks Shalini what time she opens.

### 2. Asking what time it closes

Arun asks Shalini what time the shop closes.

### 3. Checking which days are open

Arun checks with Shalini which days the shop is open.

### 4. Finding out about Sunday closing

Shalini tells Arun the shop is closed on Sunday.

### 5. Asking for an appointment tomorrow

Arun asks Shalini for an appointment tomorrow afternoon.

### 6. Agreeing on a time

Three is busy, so Shalini offers Arun four instead.

### 7. Giving your name for a booking

Shalini takes Arun's name and reads the appointment back.
