# First steps: What time, what day

> Join Rita and Kern for opening times and an appointment, one short conversation at a time. Each lesson trains your ear until you can follow every word and answer back.

**Setting:** The doorway of a small hairdresser in Berlin in the late afternoon. Kern walks past every day and finally stops to ask; Rita is tidying up between customers. Both hold Sie throughout.

## Lessons

### 1. Asking what time a shop opens

Kern stops at the hairdresser and asks Rita what time she opens.

### 2. Asking what time it closes

Kern asks Rita what time the shop closes.

### 3. Checking which days are open

Kern checks with Rita which days the shop is open.

### 4. Finding out about Sunday closing

Rita tells Kern the shop is closed on Sunday and shuts early on Saturday.

### 5. Asking for an appointment tomorrow

Kern asks Rita for an appointment tomorrow afternoon.

### 6. Agreeing on a time

Three is busy, so Rita offers Kern a quarter past instead.

### 7. Giving your name for a booking

Rita takes Kern's name and reads the appointment back.
