# First steps: Where is it?

> Listen in as Sara and Harish talk through the way to the station in real, everyday Hindi. By the end of this course their conversation will feel easy to follow, and you'll be ready to join in.

**Setting:** A street corner in Fort in Mumbai a few streets from the park, late morning. Sara is in the city for two days and stops Harish, who has lived on this street all his life. Both speak to each other formally throughout.

## Lessons

### 1. Stopping someone to ask directions

Sara stops Harish in the street to ask the way to the station.

### 2. Asking how far somewhere is

Sara asks Harish whether the station is far.

### 3. Following directions to the station

Harish gives Sara the directions twice, slowly.

### 4. Locating a bank by landmarks

Sara works out with Harish where the bank is.

### 5. Saying what is behind something

Sara and Harish work out that the station is behind the hotel.

### 6. Asking where the toilet is

Sara asks Harish where she can find a toilet.

### 7. Thanking someone for their help

Sara thanks Harish for his help and they part.
