# First steps: Where is it?

> Listen in as Nadia and Julián talk through the way to the station in real, everyday Spanish. By the end of this course their conversation will feel easy to follow, and you'll be ready to join in.

**Setting:** A street corner in Madrid next to a bank and a café, late in the morning. Nadia is in the city for two days and stops Julián, who has lived on this street all his life. They use usted with each other.

## Lessons

### 1. Stopping someone to ask directions

Nadia stops Julián in the street to ask the way to the station.

### 2. Asking how far somewhere is

Nadia asks Julián how long the walk takes.

### 3. Following directions to the station

Julián gives Nadia the directions twice, slowly.

Nadia works out with Julián where the bank is.

### 5. Saying what is behind something

Nadia and Julián work out where the station is.

Nadia asks Julián where the toilet is.

### 7. Thanking someone for their help

Nadia thanks Julián for his help and they part.
