# First steps: Where is it?

> Listen in as Aisha and Manuel talk through the way to the station in real, everyday Portuguese. By the end of this course their conversation will feel easy to follow, and you'll be ready to join in.

**Setting:** A street corner in Lisbon a few streets from the garden, late morning. Aisha is in the city for two days and stops Manuel, who has lived on this street all his life. Both hold the polite form throughout.

## Lessons

### 1. Stopping someone to ask directions

Aisha stops Manuel in the street to ask the way to the station.

### 2. Asking how far somewhere is

Aisha asks Manuel whether the station is far.

### 3. Following directions to the station

Aisha asks Manuel to repeat, and he adds the next step.

### 4. Locating a bank by landmarks

Aisha works out with Manuel where the bank is.

### 5. Saying what is behind something

Aisha and Manuel work out that the station is behind the hotel.

### 6. Asking where the toilet is

Aisha asks Manuel where the toilet is.

### 7. Thanking someone for their help

Aisha thanks Manuel for his help and they part.
